leaving blood behind
We are fed a lie in our infancy, a saccharine myth that blood is an unbreakable tether, a sacred cord that mandates endurance regardless of the cost to one’s own peace.
But there is no sanctity in suffering for the sake of lineage. To be birthed by a person is a biological fact, not a life sentence to their dysfunction. Sometimes, the most profound act of self-preservation is to acknowledge that some architects of our past are too broken to inhabit our present.
I walked away not out of spite, but out of a desperate, necessary reverence for my own sanity. The cord was severed, and for the first time in a long time I could finally breathe.
